All slots for long-term clients for the 2024-2025 application cycle have been taken. Stress Less College Apps is still taking short-term essay review clients for up to 1-2 sessions.
My goal goes beyond taking the stress out of college applications. My goal is to make college applications and college life coaching a reflective, rewarding, and enlightening experience for my clients.
Today's culture of college counseling and applications pressures students to map out their whole futures, navigate redundant application systems, learn their family's finances, and write multiple personal essays, all while managing their senior year classes. Students are told that college will be immeasurably harder than high school without learning what college will actually be like. Colleges fill students' mailboxes with tantalizing promotional materials that say little about what they really have to offer. College & career counselors at high schools are understaffed and have too many students to help at once.
My program takes a holistic approach to the college transition experience, guiding students through a structured process of reflection, goal setting, and task management. My portfolio of services begins with students' very first inquiry into their future in higher education and ends with college life coaching through their last day of freshman year. I'm also committed to making private college admissions coaching more affordable by keeping my rates at least 50% lower than many competitors.
Junior Year: I help clients set the foundation for a strong college application throughout their junior year of high school. This includes getting students familiar with the college application process, aligning academics and extracurriculars with interests and goals, and building a preliminary list of college priorities and preferences.
Fall Semester Senior Year or Community College: I guide clients through interest reflection, career exploration, college search and selection, major selection, personal statement writing, interview preparation, application organization, fall scholarship search and applications, and goal setting for senior year.
Spring Semester Senior Year - First Day of Freshman Year: I provide FAFSA and financial aid guidance, life coaching to manage "senioritis" and burnout, final college selection, registration, college life skills, dorm preparation, and more.
College Freshman Year: I offer college life coaching and academic support throughout your freshman year. This includes, among other things, balancing responsibilities, learning self-advocacy, settling roommate disputes, having fun responsibly, academic advising, connecting with campus life, accessing mental health and healthcare resources

My name is Harley Poston and I'm so excited to help you or your child with college applications and beyond. I was born and raised in the East Bay and I live with my wife and toddler in East Oakland. I've dedicated my career to the education of young people, and I'm ready to focus on your child's transition to higher education.
In my six years teaching high school seniors, I provided students with one-on-one in-class support on their college search, selection, applications, financial aid, and final decisions. I've had hundreds of conversations with high school seniors about their futures, hopes, anxieties, and challenges in higher education. I have sat down with students to literally click through their entire college applications. I have edited more personal statements than I can count. These conversations were some of the most rewarding teaching experiences I had, and now I've chosen a career dedicated to those moments.
College applications were also my seniors' top source of stress throughout their fall semester. As a teacher, I saw firsthand how the stress of these applications weighed on students' academic performance, athletics, mental health, and general wellness. My high school's college admissions counselors were great, but my students needed more one-on-one support than they could provide. I learned to speak with students about their applications in a way that prioritized their well-being. They did not need to be reminded about the importance of higher education and the difficulties that await them. They needed to know that everything was going to be okay. Only then would they find value in any advice I had to offer. This is the approach I use to guide my students today.
